Midnight Cigarette (Open to Konoha/Team Asuma) « Thread Started on Jul 25, 2009, 12:40am »
A small trail of smoke listed aimlessly through the evening skies of Konoha as the bearded jounin sat atop the roof of his house. Idly lazing about as he normally did at this hour, Asuma took a deep, long drag off of his Lucky Stripes and let out a slow but deep sigh, blowing more smoke out of his mouth and nose. Yet again, he couldn't sleep. This was the fourth night this week, he lamented to himself. Was taking on a new time going to make him an insomniac? It couldn't be helped, or so it seemed, he resigned. Maybe he should ask Kurenai about it, he thought out of his boredom. Nah, she probably wouldn't know the cause of it either, he sighed again in resignation to his fate of sleep deprivation. It really was getting annoying; sleeping was one of his favorite hobbies afterall. So why was it that he was unable to partake of his beloved pastime? It baffled him to no end. Was it from the tobacco? Or was it that he had so many missions lately that he was stressed too much to relax? Just thinking about it was keeping his mind spinning and unable to rest. Man, oh man, I really hope I don't make a habit out of this... he muttered glumly as he laid back upon the shingled roof where he sat. At least the stars were pretty tonight; it was the only thought that gave him peace of mind.
Stars; why was he suddenly thinking about stars? Was it because of Meteorfall? It had been some time since the near disaster but the images of change in the appearance of others around him still revolved in his head. Why had he remained unaffected? Come to think of it, he wasn't the only one that hadn't changed; Kurenai hadn't either. Well, he had to be a little thankful for that at least. Seriously; who ever heard of a jounin his age dating say a chunnin or God forbid, a genin? He chuckled softly at the somewhat harrowing thought as he watched the smoke from his cigarette float on towards the full moon. Again, he had to marvel at how peaceful the scenery was that night. Not a soul around, or so he thought....

"Hmm... What to do?" Haru muttered as he strolled through the streets of Konoha, he wanted to go have some fun but he hadn't seen any fellow Genin around. A bit odd. Maybe he could find Goveta and run a few errands or something, anything to blow away time. The young Shinobi hadn't been able to sleep much since that damned Meteor-fall, he didn't fully understand any of it, but he knew that everything had changed. Some people were younger, some older, but a few stayed the same. He happened to be one of the people who hadn't been affected by it, and although he was curious, he was sure noone else had much information on what had happened.
As he continued to walk on Haru noticed a narrow path to the left of the road. With a sigh he decided to walk through it. Big Mistake.
"Psst. Look look.... Ready?!"
"SHH!!"
Haru unknowingly walked straight into an ambush, without even a moments notice 4 or 5 cloaked men rushed him. Damnit! A jolt of pain rushed through his back and he felt warm blood trickle out of him.
"AAHH!!"
Haru recovered from the stab quickly and took action, with two quick finger-jabs one was knocked out cold. Four to go, after another few seconds he had one more took out. All of the sudden another few came out from Shadows, about 8 altogether now. With a scowl he was knocked down by two, and thrown into the side of a wall by another.
"Help, someone help!"
He didn't understand why he couldn't fight back, maybe it was just the the surprise of it all. How were 8 ordinary men taking him down, someone of his caliber being hurt by them. Other Genin could kill 8 men without too much of a challenge. As he lay there on the ground his consciousness slowly left him, what was happening? All he knew was if he didn't get help soon he'd die.

Hiro sigh as his cold, white eyes focused on the evening sky as he thought about the past events of the day, he and his family along with the rest of the village didn't get along that much thanks to the Hyuga clan's judgement on the sidebranch. The only people in his family who seem to accept is his parents, he doubted if anyone else did. His mind wondered to the meteor crashing, he among the group of people haven't been affected thankfully.
"But why did affect other people though?" He asked himself. Then his thoughts were interrupted when came to a road with spilt paths, on the left he heard a voice cry,"Help, someone help!"
It was Haru. He thought as he as activate his Byukugan, "Dammit, Haru! You're such a fool, you should of thought carefully before getting yourself stuck in an ambush!"
The veins around his eyes appeared and his white eyes had pupils in them, he immediately began to approach the group with caution and saw nine figures, one of them being haru he guessed. He performed the hand signs for the clone jutsu, and made two of them appear from he was hiding.
The young man nodded at the clones and began their assualt to rescuse his cousin, the two clones were back guarding the injuried genin. The eight looked at him and his clones with shock in their eyes as he began to firecely attack as many as he could. As he did he said,"Servere tenketsu point stirke!"
He had to preserve his chakra for this. The men groaned in pain and coughed up blood every now and then, it was a common affect of his clan's bloodline. One of the men his left shoulder behind him, he staggered in slight pain but dodged the next stab he attempted. One of the men attacked his clones, made them poof, but he was quick to take knife stab in left shoulder again. "Idoit.." He hissed at Haru as pain shot through him.
There was a total of four young ambusher he took care of him, but the older ones made it much harder from him to fight. The younger ones by now were dead, he backed closer to Haru and looked him. Hiro wasn't shocked nor surpised to see his kin badly hurt, thats what happens if you're not careful. After taking out the smaller ones ,he tried to take out the older ones but failed. By now he must of used half of his chakra on them!
"Dang it..." he thought. The only reason he had to protect Haru was the sidebranch's promise to the main branch to protect them and he didn't care if his cousin died. Hiro would of let him bleed out until was dead. And he wasn't weak either, it was the toughness in combat that these four had within them.
"How noble..." The genin said coolly to the four with his byukugan deactivated." Attacking a unsuspecting genin is very brave you four.."
The second man gave them both a glare, immediately he picked and draped his half consious cousin on to his unharmed shoulder then leapt off into the branches and night urgently. Fleeing was the chance of surrival, it was pointless in wasting chakra too. "Hold, Haru. You should of been more carefully though. But hold on."

Asuka wasn't even entirely sure why she was out tonight, because there weren't even any cute boys for her to scout out. Most of them would be lazily sleeping in their beds... But nonetheless, she couldn't help but go out for a walk. Being alone in her home, at only sixteen, wasn't exactly the most fun of things at all. Besides, the place got creepy every now and then... So silent, and Asuka would jump at any noise that happened. Whatever the case... Ah, it didn't matter. She hadn't really been able to sleep anyway, and she wasn't quite sure why. Nothing better than a midnight stroll, now was there?
And so, she leaped quietly across the rooftops of Konoha, aimlessly moving her way along. She used her Fuuton chakra underneath her feet to lighten her footsteps, moving with a catlike, dancer's grace, the way she always did. Padded feet like a little kitten. Asuka chuckled. Looking ahead, she saw something... That familiar stream of blue-gray smoke. Her sensei, Asuma. She'd only been recently assigned to the team... And already she could say, Tamekaze was a hunk from heaven. Good thing that Rin girl was a little shy, otherwise Asuka might've had to start a little rivalry game with her. The last one of that had gone awry, with a Hyuuga staring at her with that creepy deathly glare. There was nothing scarier than that, she could surely tell.
"Asuma-sensei," Asuka chimed from behind him, hand on one hip and shaking her finger. "You do know those aren't the best for your health, correct?" Ah, the one thing she could lecture her sensei on. A medical kunoichi herself, she knew what those could do. Nonetheless, she wasn't trying to change his habit, mostly just tease him. Nothing better than that, now was there? "If you keel over dead from your chain smoking, I'll hate to say it, but I told you so," she continued, shrugging with both palms upward in the air. As usual, white gloves adorned her hands, and her attire was her daily wear... black leggings, brown boots rather than sandals, ballooned skirt, white sleeveless top, and her detached sleeves.
She walked a little closer to the man, stopping behind him. She could tell something was wrong... Dark shadows could be seen under his eyes, just slightly, and he looked rather tired, but at the same time, wide awake. Affected by sleeplessness... A single brow raised over a bright blue eye as she stood next to where he sat, her long, sandy-brown hair fluttering with the wake of her movement.
"Can't sleep, Asuma-sensei?" She asked, a bit of care and concern behind her words. Something was probably bothering him, and it was all she could do to ask. Though the age and rank difference might've made it sound odd, she cared for her sensei, like any good student would. Sure, he was a Jounin and she a Chuunin, but she had medical prowess, and she'd learned to read a man rather well. She wasn't a boymonger for nothing... Sometimes, her boy-catching skills [which were rather terrible, ironically] came in quite handy in such situations!

Asuma barely detected the young kunoichi as she leaped up to the roof top of where he now lay and if he weren't the lofty jounin that he was, he might have actually jumped from her arrival, but he was too experienced to not know that someone was coming. Sighing heavily after hearing his pupil's voice, Asuma sat up just in time to hear Asuka chiding him about his vice yet again. As if he didn't hear it enough from Kurenai, he thought rolling his eyes and smiling to himself. Ya know, if I had a dollar for everytime someone told me that, I'd be a rich man and be retired by now. Asuma said jokingly. It definitely hadn't been the first time someone had said "I told ya so" to him about his little habit, but it wasn't in Asuma's nature to get "bent out of shape" over it. He would usually just take it in stride and laugh it off like it was nothing at all.
Taking another long drag off of his Lucky Stripes, Asuma let out the smoke slowly, making long, wispy trails in the air and occasionally a few smoke rings to go with them. He perked his ear, however, when he heard the young student of his inquire about his sleeplessness. He smiled softly to himself as he felt a bit flattered for garnishing such concern but he popped his ego before it inflated too far and merely turned his head to look at his young pupil. Yeah, it's a pain but I haven't had much sleep lately...strange for me seeing as how, if I recall right, I'm the Rip van Winkle of the ninja world... he chuckled as he thought on what Shikamaru had said to him once. Not that he had any room to talk; Shikamaru was, if anything, a mini-Asuma in his own right, what with his laziness and affinity for Shogi. He perked up again when he heard Asuka ask if something was wrong and he couldn't help but smile softly again to himself. Well, I'll put it this way... he said as he looked her direction. If I knew what exactly WAS wrong, I'd have fixed it by now...this insomnia is drivin' me nuts.... he said with a bemoaned sigh.

[[Haru, Hana, live or I keel you. T.T;;]]
Asuka listened somewhat intently to her sensei as he talked in his lazy-seeming and slightly jocular way. All she could really do was shake her head... Insomnia. It wasn't a good thing. Obviously, from the way he said it, he'd been suffering from it for a few nights now. Asuka, being the medical Chuunin that she was, began going over a number of possible reasons why he would be suffering from insomnia. It seemed that none of it made sense... Even he realized that. He was definitely one of the top Jounin in the village, that was sure; he'd been one of the guardians of the daimyo at one point.
Before she could speak, however, she caught the form of two boys, Genin from what she could tell, making their way from the nearby trees. One of them looked terribly injured... Shock came to Asuka's face, and she gasped, pointing and tapping her sensei on the shoulder. He'd see her long enough to catch her running towards the duo, at least, making quick work of the distance. She saw them... Four men, all coming out of the trees. The kunoichi leaped down just in time, weapon out, to knock away a few thrown knives from the two. They wouldn't get far from here...
"Lay him down behind me and keep these four loons busy!" Asuka commanded, her spinner out and in front of her. One of them came at her with a blade, and she ducked, parrying the blow with the unique weapon she wore on the back of her hand. The sounds of metal clashing and Asuka's boots hitting soft flesh could be heard; hopefully Asuma-sensei wouldn't waste a minute in lending a hand. It became hard when you were trying to keep four lunatics off of you as well as heal an injured boy.
One more came at her with a short knife, and Asuka deked out of the way and sent a strong boot into the man's upper torso. She didn't cause any damage, but now she was basically surrounded by the four, left only to think of a possible route. It seemed that she was their target now... Lovely, now wasn't it? The kunoichi's grip tightened on her weapon as she focused... within seconds, the Fujiwara girl burst forward, a command coming from her lips.
"Koodori Hitonomi [Dancing Swallow]!"
First, she began with a blunt stab with the blade towards the man. It pierced deep, down to his sternum, blood leaking out from the attack. She then slashed horizontally across his midsection, grimacing at the smell as he was gutted from the attack. Finishing in a 360-degree turn, she stabbed again with the spinner, then using her chakra pivoted herself upwards, her toe catching the now-dead man hard in the chin. He flew back a few feet and keeled over, dead. Meanwhile, Asuka was behind the remaining three, directly in front of the two Hyuuga boys.
Hurry up, someone... I need to take care of the wounds, she thought, a little angered. Hopefully someone would take the liberty to cover her so she could be what she was; a medical kunoichi...

Hiro did what he was told to and joined in helping Asuka fight off the remaining the men after gaining enough energy to fight them, "Eight trigrams: Sixty-four palms!" he said as he stood where he was then began to agressively strike two of the men that were threatening Asuka as she fought. This was the result of training alone for so many years and with his teammates for sometime.
Both of the men he struck at the sametime coughed up blood every now and then, one of them a second later collasped on to the ground, dead. Even though he needed to rest right now, nothing would stop from fighting these guys. Most would think he was a very caring guy since he fought until he felt partially drained of his charka. But wasn't him, the only reason he did this was to keep his cousin's butt safe. His eyes saw the clone he summon stil guarding Haru safe then went back to into his Hyuga fighting stance once with a large amount of space between and his second target.
The thug chuckled as if he was ammused,"So you're a Hyuga. It's true when they say they're strong fighters but unfornately this is the last thing you'll ever see again." Hiro remained quiet and narrowed his eyesat the man.
"Dying is something I don't do...." The spiteful genin spat back before spinning in a circle and releasing a a medium sized blouder of air at him, knocking him into a tree trunk. Hiro caught his breathe as the man coughed some of his blood, dying this way was the most painful way to leave this world as most ninja know. The man then charge at him but Hiro was quick enough to damage his opponent's circulatory system, killing him in an instant. He caught the man and pushed the dead man on the ground, on his back.
"That's what happens when a ninja messes with me, or more so, the Hyuga clan, those vultures..." He thought bitterly, dying was something he could of let himself do and make it seem like he died trying but that wasn't his style at all. Then stumbled over near Haru and sat near him, "If that idiot wakes up" He thought, clearly not in a good mood. " Then better expect all hell to break loose when I ask him why he was stupid!"

The young Genin awoke full of shock, instinctively he jumped into a fighting stance and scoped his surroundings. At first all he saw was a bunch of dead people. But as his vision began to come back to him, he noticed a Kunoichi, Asuma, and some other familiar ninja. Who are you? The words couldn't leave his mouth, but why... He looked at him closely, a Hyuga! Ever since that night, he hated all Hyuga, even though he was born as one, and used their Kekkai Genkai. He wanted to destroy them, the whole race and their deepest secrets. He decided he'd start with this one.. He took a step towards the enemy.
Haru fell a few seconds after, fresh blood began falling from his leg.
"Damn..."
New emotions rushed through him as looked up at everyone from the ground. He had never felt this helpless before, how was he hurt like this... how?
It all began to come back to him after a few minutes, he had been ambushed. And maybe these people were here to help him, he wondered how long he'd been unconscious, and how close he was from death. Haru knew that if he continued to lose blood like this he wouldn't last long.
With a loud, agonized sigh he focused all of his chakra into healing himself, he'd learned basic healing jutsu a while back, but these cuts were pretty deep. He felt the wounds begin to stop bleeding, but it wasn't enough, Haru needed an actual healer, pronto.
"Can one of you help?! I'm dying here!"
The young Shinobi heard someone rushing towards him, he closed his eyes, and waited to see what would happen. Silently praying as someone else's chakra began to heal him

Hiro, being the one to know how Haru felt about his extended family since he hated every hyuga and person alive at the moment, watched as he was being healed with an "told you so" expression gleaming in his eyes. The genin going to wait until the healing process was complete, he would found out way his cousin was out here by himself. His non-caring nature to take notice of the well-being of those around him made careless what others thought of him as an person.
"Consider yourself lucky that you didn't die, Haru..." Hiro said to his cousin in a bitter tone. "Don't you ever take per cations?"

Haru lay there, waiting for the mending of his cuts and broken bones to finish. As it neared it's end, he heard from that damned Hyuga.
"Consider yourself lucky that you didn't die, Haru...."
The young Shinobi had just been ambushed, and he was still sore even though his wounds were being taken care of; the last thing he wanted was a fight. But with that last remark...
"Don't you ever take pre-cautions?"
He couldn't just do nothing and look like a fool, Haru's impulsive side took hold and he hopped up as soon as the healing was over, ready to kill. He didn't care whether Asuma, or the Kunoichi saw him, he was already an outlaw for murdering his father. So he really had nothing to lose, even though he'd been forgiven for his crime. As he stood, Haru reached for, and threw, a Kunai at the young Genin. It was aimed straight for his forehead, he knew it'd be dodged but the Kunai would show that he was no joke, and he'd have the Hyuga's blood soon.
"WHo dO yoU ThINk You aRE?!?! HahaHA! Noone talks to me like that and get's away with it.... Hehe, Ready to Die?"
Haru was sick and tired of these arrogant Hyuga, if this is what had to happen, it would. He got over his soreness quickly, and with a loud chuckle he stared into the eyes of the Hyuga. As soon as their eye's locked, he activated his Two-Tomoe Sharingan, it'd be over from then on.

Hiro caught the flying kunai and threw it back with his Byukguan activated, the veins around his eyes caught every chakra point in his cousin's body. He said,"Dying is the last thing you'd expect me to do." The young genin looked into Haru's eyes, they were different from the rest of the Hyuga clan's yet he called himself a Hyuga. An odd member, but family neverthless.
His expression hid his intentions upon fighting Haru, it was the only way he could get this Hyuga to calm down. Being hated didn't bother him one bit, not letting down his mental and physical guard, he continued to look in his cousin's eyes with a callm hate in them.
